A Transmission from the Sha’Rahn Elders of Verdigris, Offered to Those Who Will Listen.
Translated from resonance pattern into surface language. Fidelity is approximate. The original carries more.
We do not speak often.
To speak is to reveal one’s inner terrain, and we are a people who have learned โ across more centuries than your calendars have words for โ that the inner terrain is the most sacred geography there is. We shape light the way others shape metal. We move through stone the way your kind moves through air. We communicate in frequencies that your instruments cannot yet detect, passing meaning through touch and resonance, and the specific quality of silence that follows a truth.
We are speaking now because the moment requires it.
You will not have heard of us. This is intentional. We have watched your civilizations rise and fold back into the soil for as long as the twin suns have risen over Verdigris, and in all that time, we have chosen the deep place over the visible one. Not from fear. From wisdom. There is a difference, and it matters enormously that you understand it before you read further.
We chose the deep place because we understood something your surface civilizations are still learning: that the loudest presence is rarely the most consequential one. The roots of a forest are invisible. They are also what holds everything standing.
We are the roots.
We were here when the Elevants built their harmonic stewardship and believed that patience would outlast fear. We watched. We said nothing because the lesson was not yet complete. We were here when Drayk’s movement found the seams in that beautiful, sincere, fatally slow architecture and pulled until everything unraveled. We watched that too. The Ascendancy calls itself a reclamation. We call it what it is: a civilization choosing noise over depth, fire over roots, the brilliant, destructive flash of a thing that has forgotten how to grow.
We have seen this pattern before. We have seen it end both ways.
Now Kaelia Vaylen is in orbit above a blue world that does not yet know it is deciding its own fate. And we find ourselves doing something we have not done in a very long time.
We are hoping.
Not the passive hope of observers. The specific, active hope of beings who understand exactly what is at stake and have chosen, after long deliberation, to place what we love in the hands of someone else’s courage.
Kaelia’s great-grandfather came to us with a request that required him to understand something most surface dwellers never grasp: that to receive something from the Sha’Rahn, you must first demonstrate that you are willing to receive โ not to take, not to negotiate, not to leverage, but to receive, which is a form of vulnerability that most powerful people find unbearable. He understood. We built a city together. The alliance grew into something the Ascendancy still cannot see, which is precisely what alliances are for.
We know Kaelia. We have watched her since she was small. We watched her complete the Rite of Kaelos with a ferocity that impressed even our elders, who have seen many things. We watched her lose Verin in the launch corridor and run โ not from grief, but with it, which is different, which is the thing that makes her dangerous in the best possible sense. We invited her to the Shalun Depths, where time bends, and the universe shows itself to those who can be still enough to see it. What she saw there is between her and the deep place. We will not speak of it here.
What we will say is this: she carries it properly.
Catalyst must succeed. Not because we are sentimental. We are not sentimental. We have watched too many civilizations choose beautiful destruction over difficult growth to harbor easy feelings about any of them. We root for Catalyst because the mathematics of consciousness demand it.
The universe moves toward complexity. Toward connection. Toward the specific kind of awareness that can look at another awareness and recognize itself. This is not philosophy. This is physics, observed across more cycles of planetary formation and dissolution than your civilization has had sunrises. Civilizations that choose dominance over resonance are not evil. They are simply wrong about the direction of the current. They exhaust themselves fighting the river. They consume everything around them and then, having consumed it, find there is nothing left to be.
The Ascendancy is fighting the river.
Earth, left to its current trajectory, will fight the river too โ differently, through fragmentation and fear and the specific human genius for choosing the smaller story when the larger one is available. Eunoia is not manipulation. It is the river, offered. The removal of what fear installed. The restoration of what was always there beneath the noise.
We do not love every method Catalyst employs. We are ancient enough to recognize that some of what they carry is its own kind of fire. We are watching that too. We are watching whether the people who wield the tools of transformation can remain human โ or Elarin, as the archives name it โ while wielding them. Whether they can hold the root while standing in the flame.
This is the question the Rite of Kaelos asks. It is also the question Catalyst asks: whether the crew has named it yet.
We transmit our support through the quantum-entangled networks that the Ascendancy cannot see. We maintain the planetary defenses that render Verdigris invisible to those who would consume it. We wait in the deep place, as we have always waited, as the roots wait โ not passive, but patient, which is a kind of power that only becomes visible when everything above ground is tested.
We have seeded Solis into every system the Ascendancy believes it controls.
We are the thing they cannot detect.
We are the roots.
And when the moment comes, when Kaelia speaks the word that wakes what we planted, when the digital whisper moves through every circuit on a world that was taken from its people โ when every malfunctioning system becomes a small act of remembrance โ we will be here, in the silence beneath the noise, doing what we have always done.
We will be listening.
And this time, listening will be enough to change everything.
Transmitted in the resonance of the third deep cycle, through the gift networks, to those who will carry it forward.
The roots remember.
In stillness, they speak.
